City Market on fire

Fire has swept through Lusaka’s City Market destroying property worth millions of Kwacha.

The QTV News crew that rushed to the scene this morning found City Market engulfed as shop owners watched in disbelief.

The fire is believed to have started early this morning around 04 hours.

And Acting Republican President Inonge Wina who rushed to the scene around 10hrs this morning warned of stern action against the criminals behind the gutting of city market.

The acting President has described the act as ’sabotage’.

Speaking when she toured the gutted market today Mrs. Wina warned that there will be no mercy to the perpetrators of the crime once they are caught.

The head of state has stated that the perpetrators of these acts of arson, sabotage  and vandalism  are taking government and the law for granted and therefore government will not rest until these criminals are brought to book.

And also touring the gutted market, Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo says government will not rest until the perpetrators are brought out, he has since called on the youths to work closely with the police in patrolling the area.

And some marketeers talked to have bemoaned the gutting of the market, pleading with the people behind these acts to stop.

Meanwhile Disaster Management Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Patrick Kangwa says investigations are underway to establish the cause and extent of damage of the fire.
