Developmental policies have left the youth behind- Ndashe

Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has noted that high unemployment has robbed the majority of youths the opportunity to contribute to the social and economic development of the country.

JCTR Policy Analyst Innocent Ndashe says this is because the current development policies and their implementation have failed to contribute positively to addressing the needs of the Zambian youth.

Mr. Ndashe says as the country commemorates Youth Day which falls TODAY, 12th March, there is need for government to address the numerous challenges facing the youth.

He cited high unemployment, limited opportunity to access and attain tertiary education and participation in decision-making processes as some of the challenges facing the youth.

And Mr. Ndashe is urging government to take stock of its development policies and ensure it prioritizes investment in youth development and economic empowerment.

He is of the view that one of the ways of addressing the needs of the youth in the country is by stopping rampant mismanagement of public funds to avoid wastage and channeling such resources towards job creation.

Mr. Ndashe has called upon the general citizenry, especially the youth to actively get involved in holding the government and other duty bearers accountable.
