FAO confident Zambia will record bumper harvest

The Food Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has described the 2018/19 farmer inputs support programme (fisp) as a success compared to 2017-2018 planting season.

According to the food agricultural organisation, the 2018/19 fisp was well implemented compared to the previous season.

FAO Country Director George Okech has told journalist in Lusaka that the e-voucher system government is using to distribute farm inputs is more effective.

Dr. Okech feels that government delivered the inputs on time as compared to the 2017-2018 farming season.

He is of the view that the one of the biggest challenge the 2018-2019 farming season is the weather pattern.

Dr. Okech has indicted that the input redemption process had been finalized on time unlike in other seasons when the programme beneficiaries could redeem the inputs as late as February.

Meanwhile dr. Okech has predicted that Zambia is likely to record a bumper harvest this year following the favourable weather conditions in some parts of the country.
