K4.3 billion was spent on govt programmes in December 2018

The treasury released a total sum of K4.3 billion, at the month end of December 2018 to finance government programmes in various ministries, provinces and other controlling bodies.

Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe says the K4.3 billion was meant for capital programmes, agriculture development, public welfare, debt service, and general public service delivery operations.

Ms. Mwanakatwe notes that out of the K4.3 billion a total funding of K1.5 billion was allocated to service both domestic and external debt while K437 million was spent on financing grant-aided-operations.

She has told Q- News in a statement that K1.1 billion went to various government programmes, projects and public service delivery with K1.3 billion being allocated to funding the public service wage bill.

The Minister of Finance has further disclosed that K399.6 million was spent on capital projects across the country out of which K269.2 million went towards on-going works and completion of road projects.

She says K10.5 million was allocated to the Rural Electrification Programme and that a further K10 million went towards the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Ms. Mwanakatwe says her Ministry also released K69.4 million to support the operations of Public Universities and a further K15 million to finance the award of student loans and scholarships.

She says a sum of K116.7 million went towards the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) adding that funding to programme, from January2018 to December 2018, stood at K1.86 billion.

The Minister of Finance says K244.5 million was also released to support some activities and operations of various institutions.

She notes that of this amount, K153 million went towards the procurement of drugs and medical supplies in public health institutions.
