A 60 year old woman of Chakopo village in Kapemba Chiefdom in Mwense District of Luapula Province has committed suicide by hanging herself.
ZANIS reports that Luapula Province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi confirmed in an interview that Roydah Chota killed herself in her own house.
The incident happened on Wednesday December 26, 2018 around 02:00 hours when the deceased hanged herself using a rope tied to the roof.
Mr. Chushi disclosed that the deceased complained of having been chased from a funeral gathering by relatives on suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
He states that the deceased had however earlier attempted to commit suicide prior this incident.
Mr. Chushi says it is understood that the deceased had once thrown herself into the Luapula River but got rescued by her relatives.
He says the Police therefore suspect no foul play in the cause of her death.
