YALI implores Zambians to respect independence of Judiciary

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI)has implored Zambians to respect the independence of the Judiciary.

YALI President Andrew Nthewewe is concerned with the incessant attacks on the Constitutional Court days before the court delivers a crucial judgment pertaining to President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to stand in the 2021 elections.

Mr Nthewewe is particularly disappointed with sentiments attributed to supposedly imminent people who have gone as far as demanding for the abolishment of the Constitutional Court.

He says judicial independence is a very important pillar in a democratic society, adding that as a foundation for democracy, the judiciary is the beacon of hope for the nourishment and growth of democracy.

And Mr. Nthewewe has appealed to all parties in the eligibility case to exercise maximum restraint, maturity and sobriety.
