President Lungu hails Zambia-US ties

Edgar LunguThe Millennium Challenge Account project, Smart Water Supply Scheme in Lusaka’s Jack Compound has been officially handed over to government.

The project which includes installation of the Water network, an elevated water tank and solar power pumps has expanded access to clean drinking water for 25, 000 residents in the compound.

And President Edgar Lungu who officiated at the handover ceremony has commended the United States government for the life saving support.

President Lungu says the Smart Water Supply Scheme demonstrates the great friendship between Zambia and United States of America.

He says the two Countries have continued to enjoy a cordial bilateral relationship for many decades.

President Lungu says the US$ 355 million grant which has delivered the project is one of the many examples of tremendous support received from the American government.

Meanwhile President Lungu has praised the American government for the infrastructure works on the Bombay and Mazyopa drainages and the innovative intervention ms in solid waste management.

He says the drainage system will assist in reducing flooding, especially in the central business district of Lusaka.

And speaking at the same event, Millennium Challenge Account Vice President General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Jeane Hauch says improved water supply and sanitation will save lives and help provide the foundation for Zambia’s economic growth.

Ms. Hauch has commended the Zambian government has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the compacts goals throughout the development and implementation of the compact.

And Water and Sanitation Minister Dennis Wanchinga has assured the American people that  government will ensure that the people of Zambia take care of the infrastructure development.
