Govt will get to the bottom of UNZA fracas – Kampyongo

KampyongoHome Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo says government will leave no stone unturned to get to the bottom of what led to the fracas at the University of Zambia which left one student dead due to suffocation and another with spinal injuries.

Mr. Kampyongo has since appealed for calm among the family members of the deceased and injured student and the nation as whole as his ministry conducts investigations into the matter.

And the minister has condemned in the strongest terms the unruly behavior by youths among them university students who verbally abused information and broadcasting services minister Dora Siliya at the church service for the late University of Zambia student Vespers Shimuzhila.

Meanwhile Kampyongo says Government owes over 1,300 officers who took part in the 2016 mobile national registration exercise a total of K21.5 million in arrears.

He disclosed this in parliament in response to a question raised by Kabompo member of parliament Ambrose Lufuma who wanted to know whether government was aware that some officers who participated in the mobile issuance of national registration cards in 2016 are still being owed arrears, how many are being owed and when government will settle the arrears.

Mr. Kampyongo says government is well aware of the 1,375 officers being owed allowances and is committed to ensuring that the owed arrears are settled.

He has stated that in the 2018 budget, government made provision for dismantling the arrears.

The Minister explains that government owed the officers arrears of three months of which two months arrears have been settled and only one month is remaining which will be settled as soon as funds are available.
