The World Bank has partnered with the Ministry of General Education on a project to construct 82 secondary schools in seven provinces at a total cost of US$62 million.

The project dubbed the Zambia Education Enhancement Project (ZEEP) will result in the creation of 25,000 Secondary School spaces.

Speaking when he visited the Ministry of General Education headquarters in Lusaka, World Bank Senior Education Specialist Nalin Jena says the Bank wants to see enhanced quality of education delivery particularly in Mathematics and Science.

Mr. Jena adds that the World Bank will also assist the Ministry of General Education in improving its data storage system.

He notes that the current system being used is inefficient.

And Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration Dr. Felix Phiri says the support from the World Bank responds to the desire by government to take education to all parts of the country.

Dr. Phiri says the ZEEP Project is in tandem with government’s agenda of becoming a middle income country by the year 2030.

He has expressed hope that the ministry will achieve a number of its goals through the project.

Mr Phiri has since assured the World Bank of his ministry’s prudent use of the support offered.

The Zambia Education Enhancement Project will come to an end on October 31st, 2022.
