Body of drowned Namwala girl retrieved

A joint team of Zambia Police officers and Namwala district Council Fire Brigade has managed to retrieve the body of a girl who drowned on Sunday afternoon at about 12:30 hours in Namwala river.

Council public relations officer Bupe Kabuswe says the girl has been identified as Soneni Muchindu aged 14 years of Namwala’s Copper Compound in Chief Mukobela’s Chiefdom.

She says it is believed that the deceased was trying to draw water from the river when she met her fate.

Ms. Kabuswe says the body of the deceased was retrieved at 13:10 hours and has since been deposited in the Namwala district hospital Mortuary.
