President Edgar Lungu has noted with great concern the deterioration of morals in the country.

In his state of the nation address on the progress made in the application of national values and principles, President Lungu says this is evidenced by the high prevalence of teen pregnancies and early marriages.

He says this is also evidenced by the growing trend in the misapplication of public funds, and abuse of social media.

President Lungu adds that of equal concern is alcohol and substance abuse as well as poor work culture, among others.

He says there is need to act now or risk losing the country’s moral values and ethics completely if action is not taken redress this trend.

The Head of State has further stressed that inculcating morally upright and ethical behavior in citizens and getting them to live a positive value-centred life remains a priority of government.
