11 die in long weekend accidents

accident_2Police recorded a total of three hundred and three (303) road traffic accidents during the just ended long weekend in which eleven people died.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says sixteen were serious road traffic accidents in which 59 people were seriously injured, while 46 were slight accidents in which 55 people were slightly injured.

Ms Katongo says one hundred and thirty cases were damage only accidents.

She says Lusaka Province recorded 88 Road Traffic Accidents, Copperbelt 36, Central 18, Southern, 15, North Western 13, Eastern 12, while the rest of the provinces recorded between four and seven road traffic accidents with Kenneth Kaunda International Airport recording one.

Ms Katongo adds that during the same period Police recorded 50 cases of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, 24 theft cases and six Burglary and Theft cases.
