Zambia’s First President Dr Kenneth Kaunda‘s role in the Liberation of Zambia and some African states is a legacy that will live on and can never be deleted says International University of Africa Director of External Affairs, Professor Tagjadin Niam.

Reaffirming the University’s commitment to honor Dr. Kaunda this year, Professor Niam says it is important for Africa to honor leaders that have left an indelible mark on the continent while they are still alive.

He says the board of the senate decided to honor Dr. Kaunda owing to his contribution to the liberation struggle and his current pursuit of an AIDS free continent.

The Professor said this when Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Susan Sikaneta who is also Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zambia to the Sudan paid a courtesy call on him.

And Professor Niam said the prestigious International University of Africa has increased its student’s scholarship from the current 35 students per year to fifty.

He says this decision is meant to support more Zambian students who are unable to access University education because of lack of funds.

The Professor says so far the school has about 35 Zambian students who are performing well in different faculties.

And Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Susan Sikaneta thanked the University for its decision to honor Dr. Kaunda, the founding Father of Zambia who contributed enormously to the liberation of Southern Africa, the elimination of Apartheid and the fight against AIDS.

She says his honoring is a befitting tribute that will coincide with his 94 birthday that falls on 28th April 2018.

Ms. Sikaneta is in Sudan to attend a Forum for Non Resident Ambassadors to the republic of the Sudan. The Ambassadors were drawn from Zambia, Malawi, Botswana, Ivory Coast, Burundi, Portugal, Finland, Thailand, Myanmar, Afghanistan and Malta.

This is contained in a statement issued to QFM News by Zambia Embassy, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia First Secretary-Press &Tourism Inutu Mwanza.
