Twelve unions call for indaba on NHIB

Twelve affiliates of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) have appealed to President Edgar Lungu to call for a tripartite consultative meeting on the national health insurance bill.

The unions have indicated that they are displeased in the manner the bill has been taken to parliament by the minister of health Dr. Chitalu Chilufya.

Speaking to journalists In Lusaka, Union President Blake Mulala says the unions are of the view that the introduction of the bill will erode services that they are currently enjoying under other various health insurance schemes.

Mr. Mulala has called on President Edgar Lungu not to assent the bill, provided it passes in parliament.

Mr. Mulala has further called on the head of state to direct health minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya and the labor minister Joyce Nonde to engage other key stakeholders to exhaust all consultations before the bill is enacted into law.
