The Road Transport and Safety Agency has advised members of the public against jumping on pirate taxis and unregistered motor vehicles for their own safety.

The warning comes in the wake of increased use of pirate taxis and unregistered motor vehicles for criminal activities that have left some victims dead and injured in some parts of the country.

RTSA head public relations Fredrick Mubanga has urged the general public to use registered Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) such as buses and taxis to avoid being victims of the killings that have of late become rampant.

Mr Mubanga adds that anyone boarding a taxi should ensure that they take note of the registration mark of the motor vehicle that they are jumping on and inform the next of kin whenever they are using public transport as Criminals have taken advantage of pirate taxis which they are using to attack and kill people in unclear circumstances.

He has stressed that the use of pirate taxis and unregistered motor vehicles for public transportation is against the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002.

Mr Mubanga says the agency is working with the Zambia Police to address the situation.
