The Pensions Insurance Authority says it supports the enactment of the National Health Insurance Bill.

PIA Deputy Registrar in charge of Insurance Titus Nkwale says the bill is a mechanism by which citizens will be accorded an opportunity to access enhanced primary health care services.

Mr Nkwale is however, of the view that the bill once enacted should address basic health care for both the formal and informal sectors.

He states that the authority sees the health insurance scheme as a tier one health service, and that once citizens have appreciated the benefits, they should then easily interact with private health insurance providers.

Mr Nkwale is hopeful that the bill will help provide for increased finances to the health sector and more benefits for both the formal and informal sectors.
