Lightning kills three people in Southern Province

Three people have died after being struck by lightning in Southern province while three others are nursing injuries.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed the development to QTV News that two people died yesterday after they were struck by lightning at around 13:00 hours at Livingstone Central Hospital.

Ms Katongo has identified the deceased as Brian Muleya aged 25 and Joyce Hakalima aged 60 both of Batons area in Choma District, while three injured people are admitted to the same Hospital.

She says the incident occurred when the deceased persons and the survivors who all had patients at the Health facility were sitting under a tree which was later hit by lightning.

Ms Katongo says the bodies of the deceased are in the Livingstone Central Hospital mortuary.

She says in a similar incident a 14 year old boy identified as Embrod Milambo of Haamakala Village, Chief Choongo of Monze District also of Nsangu farms in Monze died after he was struck by lightning.
