Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda has assured residents that the flooding of the Luanshya River which threatens to cut off some residential areas is being monitored and will be brought under control.

Mr. Chanda says the authorities in the district have brought in the Water Master Dredger from the Department of Water Affairs in Ndola as a quick intervention to remove weeds and expand the banks of the river whose over flowing water has caused a looming overflow on the main bridge connecting New Town and parts of Roan area from the rest of Luanshya town.

He says his office working in collaboration with the office of the District Commissioner, Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company and Chinese owned CLM-CNMC have intervened with the aim of averting the pending disaster.

The Luanshya Mayor has assured the residents that his office and other stakeholders in the district are monitoring the situation and doing everything possible to prevent the recurring of the 2001 flooding of the Luanshya River, which resulted in the delinking of New Town at 4th Street and East Drive forcing residents to use boats to cross.
