Plane crash kills pilot

Three people have died on the spot after a Fuso Truck collided with a stationery truck along Great North Road early this morning.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says two others sustained injuries in the accident which happened at about 05:50 hours this morning along the Great North road, about one kilometre north of landless corner police post.

She says involved in the accident was Lukonde,other name and age not known, of Serenje who was driving a Mitsubishi Fuso registration number ALF 538 from the northern direction heading in southern direction, and Silwamba Shadrick aged 32 of Katozi compound in Nakonde who had parked his Scania truck registration number AHB 490 facing the southern direction after it had a breakdown.

Ms Katongo says the accident happened when the driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso hit into the stationary Scania Truck due to excessive speed.

She says the driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso, together with his two female passengers identified as Martha Kabwe of Matero in Lusaka and another unknown, died on the spot after sustaining fatal injuries while another passenger identified as Josephine Bauleni of Kabwe sustained head injuries and is admitted to Liteta Hospital.

Ms Katongo tells QTV News that the driver of the Scania Truck also sustained injuries and is admitted to Liteta Hospital.

Meanwhile a two seater plane registration number 9 JYR V white in colour has crashed killing the pilot identified as Charles Rea aged 65 years of Kawiko area, a Zambian by birth, also Irish by origin.

Ms Katongo says this occurred today at about 08:30 hours at Kawiko Airstrip in Mwinilunga District of North Western Province.

She says the plane is reported to have crashed after the pilot lost control whilst on the runway before taking off, flew at a height of 50 meters and then crashed to the ground.
