Chief Nsamba of Lunga District in Luapula province has condemned the decision by government to extend the fishing ban from 1st March to 30th April, 2018.

Recently Fisheries and Livestock Minister Kampamba Mulenga announced that government has extended the fishing ban from 1st March to 30th April as a preventive measure against cholera in the country.

But Chief Nsamba says Government should consider rescinding the decision saying man y of his subjects depend on fishing for their livelihoods and have suffered a lot since the fish ban came into effect on 1st December,2017.

He says even though the intention to extend the fish ban is meant to safeguard the lives of the people, government did not consult all stakeholders such traditional leaders.

Chief Nsamba states that most people in Luapula province depend on fishing as the source of their livelihoods, the reason why government should revisit its decision to extend fishing ban.
