UNZA vows to improve sanitary conditions before reopening

The University of Zambia is optimistic of meeting the standards set by health inspectors for the reopening of the institution by the end of February 2018.

UNZA Registrar Sitali Wamundila told journalists during a conducted tour of the Great East road campus that K1 million has been spent on the rehabilitation works in readiness of the re-opening of the institution.

Mr Wamundila says the rehabilitation of the Ablution blocks, mending of the water leakages and the general improvement of water supply and other works are still in progress and will be completed before the institutions re-opens.

He states that while the University infrastructure requires great improvement, the lack of adequate financial and human resources has greatly hampered progress of the rehabilitation works.

Mr. Wamundila has however, assured the public that the ongoing rehabilitation works at UNZA will not trigger any increment in fees.

And Mr. Wamundila has revealed that government has sourced some funds to dismantle the arrears owed to retirees at the institution.

He says Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo is in a hurry to ensure all retirees are paid their dues.

Mr Wamundila says the university owes retirees K2 billion.
