Fuel Tanker explodes in Mpika burning occupants beyond recognition

A fuel Tanker carrying petrol yesterday exploded in Mpika District of Muchinga Province after it lost control with the truck and its occupants been burnt beyond recognition.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo tells QTV News that the accident occurred yesterday at 16:10 hours at Danger Hill along Great North Road, 27 kilometers north of Mpika.

Ms Katongo says the accident involved a Howo Tanker Truck registration number 0576AK05 and Trailer number T7673 ALO5  being driven by Tshilumba Tathi aged 32 of Lubumbashi in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

She says the Tanker was loaded with 42, 000 liters of Petrol.

The Police Spokesperson furthermore explains that the accident happened when the driver lost control of the motor vehicle as he was descending the Danger Hill which later overturned and caught fire.

Ms Katongo says Police officers are trying to establish the number of occupants.
