Transport and Communications Minister Brian Mushimba says in the last seven days most parts of Zambia have experienced continuous rainfall resulting in flash floods and floods in selected areas of the country.

Mr. Mushimba says the western half of Zambia that includes Lusaka, Central, North Western, Western, and Southern Provinces have been mostly affected by rainy conditions.

He says this is despite the fact that these areas experienced elongated dry spell during the month of January 2018.

He notes that the rest of Zambia will be Cloudy with afternoon thundershowers.

Mr. Mushimba says during same period flash floods and Floods are expected over Western, Southern, Lusaka, Central and Copperbelt Provinces.

He adds that a temporal reduction in rainfall activities is expected from the 17th February, 2018.

Mr. Mushimba discloses that the month of February will be the wettest in the 2017/18 rainfall season over the southern half of Zambia.

He has also cautioned that the expected Flash floods and Floods may cause the washing away of some bridges and other infrastructure.

Mr. Mushimba also says the increase of the spread of waterborne diseases is expected thus preventive measures should be enhanced.

He is advising all Local Authorities to increase solid waste management activities to avoid re-occurrence of Cholera outbreak.

The Transport and Communications Minister has advised motorists to drive with caution in view of floods and wash away on the roads.
