MMRP Manganese Mine Limited intends to invest US$15 million in the establishment of the mine, processing plant and Biomas Energy plant in Chief Chisunka’s Chiefdom in Mansa District of Luapula Province.

Speaking at the ground breaking event for works to commerce at the mine in Mansa today, MMRP mining Chairman Raj Pousapaii says the manganese mine which is expected to start production in April 2018.

Mr. Pousapaii says the mine will employ about 5, 000 local people once fully operational.

Officiating at the ceremony, Mansa Central Member of Parliament Dr. Chitalu Chilufya says the investment by MMRP resonates very well with the vision of the PF government of creating jobs and taking development to all parts of the country.

Dr. Chilufya, who is also Health Minister, says the investment is poised to yield great results as it is a Private public partnership.

And Chief Chisunka of the Ushi people says the beginning of works at the mine is a dream come true for his chiefdom as they worked hard to ensure that an investor was found.

The traditional leader says the old Kankasa Mine used to produce manganese for making Mansa batteries but was sold to private people which led to many people losing their jobs.

Chief Chisunka is hopeful that the firm will put the welfare of the community first and will offer employment to the locals.
