Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has reiterated his warning to unscrupulous people involved in the pilferage of drugs and other pharmaceuticals that the law will soon catch up with them.

And Dr Chilufya has urged the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority to intensify surveillance in all health institutions and ensure that all expired and illegal drugs and other pharmaceutical products being given to members of the public are confiscated and appropriately disposed off.

Speaking during the commissioning of the US$425,000 ZAMRA incinerator housing compound in Lusaka, Dr Chilufya said effective disposal of drugs and pharmaceuticals is very important to the well being of the community.

He says he is therefore hopeful that the commissioned incinerator will help in the effective disposal of expired and illegal drugs around the country, further calling on all stakeholders in the health sector to make use of the facility.

Speaking at same occasion, UNDP Country Director Mandisa Mashologu reaffirmed the UNDP’s commitment to contributing to improvement of the health sector through the provision of such facilities.

And ZAMRA Director Bernice Mwale thanked the UNDP for funding the construction of the facility which she says will ease the process of disposing off drugs.
