Mulenga refuse to meet ZNBC workers in presence of private media

A scheduled meeting between Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Kampamba Mulenga and aggrieved ZNBC workers failed to take-off today after the minister insisted that the private media should not cover the deliberations.

The workers had sought an audience with the minister to engage her on several challenges they have been facing over the years which include poor conditions of service and alleged favoritism in the awarding of contracts and confirmations.

But the minister demanded through labour commissioner Chanda Kazhiya that the meeting be under closed door with only ZNBC workers present.

The workers however, insisted that they be addressed openly as the challenges they are facing are already in public domain.

And Zambia Union of Broadcasters and other Information Disseminators (ZUBID) president Chomba Yumbe later informed the workers of the minister’s departure after failing to agree with the minister to have a closed door meeting.

And National Union for Communication Workers deputy secretary general Jonathan Kandunda explained why the workers wanted to sought an audience with the minister.
