Luanshya Mayor cautions contractor working on sewerage installations

Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda has warned contractors engaged to undertake the multi-million Kwacha water and sewerage installations project to in the district to make sure the works are completed on time.

Mr. Chanda says the contractors risk being surcharged or having their contracts terminated if they do not complete the works on time.

He has told Q-news that though he is pleased with the technology being used by Kruger Veolia, a company engaged to implement the US$104 million Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company, Water and Sewerage Infrastructure Replacement Project there is more that needs to be done.

Mr. Chanda says the people of Luanshya, who are now receiving a limited supply of water and in some parts no water, have waited for clean and safe drinking water for too long after they were assured that the rehabilitation works would be completed before October and December 2017.

He has since advised Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company to see to it that the provisions of the contracts, which state that the contractor will be penalized for failing to do the works within the specified time frame of the contract period are invoked.
