Zambia, in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission, will this week on Thursday and Friday host the Africa Fiscal Forum.

The Forum is an international event that brings together fiscal authorities from Ministries of Finance and Customs Organisations in Africa.

A delegation from the IMF led by Roger Nord, IMF-African Department, arrives in the country for the Forum, on Wednesday, February 07, 2018.

Others in the IMF team include Bernadine Akitoby, Tobias Rasmussen and Alfredo Baldini.

The European Commission will be represented by Alessandro Mariani, Ambassador of the European Union to Zambia and COMESA, and Erica Gerretsen.

The Forum, whose theme is “fiscal policy in an evolving world” and which will officially be opened by Zambia’s Minister of Finance Felix Mutati on Thursday, 8th February, 2018, in Lusaka will among other topics, look at dealing with challenges from the international tax system.

Ministry of Finance Head of Public Relations Chileshe Kandeta says the forum will also look at the digital revolution and fiscal policy; innovation in public spending and management; innovation in tax policy and administration; inequality and fiscal policy; and, medium term revenue strategies.

Mr. Kandeta says the hosting of the Africa Fiscal Forum in Zambia is a recognition of the reforms that the government is implementing in boosting domestic revenue collection and enhancing fiscal consolidation.

He says the Forum will also offer an opportunity to Zambian fiscal authorities in the Ministry of Finance and the Zambia Revenue Authority to embrace best practices from other fiscal jurisdictions in order to refine fiscal and tax policy formulation, implementation, and administration in Zambia.
