MoH launches phase two Oral Cholera vaccination exercise

The Ministry of Health has launched the second phase of the oral cholera vaccination exercise with the United Nations donating an additional 1.3 million dosages.

During the first phase which was launched last month, the UN in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) donated 2 million dosages to be given to people starting with the cholera epic centers.

Speaking during the launch in Lusaka’s Kanyama compound, UN Country Representative Janet Rogan says the UN is pleased that the first phase went on well.

Ms. Rogan says the people who have taken the dosage will be immune from cholera for the next three years.

She has since encouraged residents to access the vaccine as this will help them in preventing cholera.

Speaking when he officially launched the exercise, Angolan minister of health Silvia Paula says her country is also having the same problem of cholera.

And Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya thanked the residents for tuning up to receive the second dose of the cholera vaccine.
