The Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) is urging the ministry of general education to open the schools in Lusaka province on the same date.

ZCSD Executive Director Lewis Mwape says this will help the ministry to manage the school calendar more effectively.

Mr. Mwape feels that the opening of schools based on cholera classifications of epic and non-epic areas will bring confusion in the administration of the school calendar and will lead to exclusion and stigmatization of pupils based location/townships or compounds.

Mr., Mwape has advised government to be sensitive to education geopolitics and ensure that the system does not deliberately and willingly promote inequality in the education sector.

He says the opening of learning institutions must not be used as lit must test for high performance by the ministry of health in fighting cholera while indicators for presence of cholera are still visible and active in high density areas classified as epicenters.

Meanwhile Mr. Mwape has implored President Edgar Lungu to vigorously fight corruption.

Mr. Mwape has regretted that punishment has not been meted on erring public officials.

He says his organization wants to see president Lungu respond on taxpayers’ missing money, which runs into millions of dollars without any decisive action having been taken against culprits.
