Siavonga residents living in fear of Crocodiles

KANYAMA DCSiavonga residents are living in fear following a spate of crocodile attacks on people who go to fetch water or swim in the Zambezi River and Lake Kariba.

This follows the latest incident in which a 12-year old girl was killed by a crocodile on Tuesday when she went to fetch water from the Zambezi River.

Last week an 18-year old boy was caught by a crocodile and dragged into the river and his remains only retrieved after 36 hours.

Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has identified the latest victim as Enala Sikongo, a Grade 4 pupil at Bbakasa Primary School.

Mr. Kanyama says Enala’s remains have since been retrieved and buried

He has emphasized the need for parents not to send their children to fetch water from the river as they are more vulnerable to attacks by the reptiles.
