DR. ANDREW SILUMESIThe Ministry of Health says it has made progress in the provision of Antiretroviral therapy (ART) with over 900 thousand HIV patients currently on treatment countrywide.

Speaking in Lusaka during the first ever HIV/AIDS Champions awards ceremony aimed at appreciating people who have largely contributed to the fight against HIV/AIDS, ministry of health’s Director of Public health Dr. Andrew Silumesi says government has this year made significant strides in the fight against HIV/AIDS by making ART services available in various health centers countrywide.

Dr. Silumesi has also stated that over the years, stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS has continued to reduce; a development the country should continue embracing.

He however, says despite the successes the country has made in the fight against the pandemic, a lot still needs to be done especially that over 300,000 of the 1.2 million Zambians living with HIV are not yet on treatment.

Speaking at the same function, Resident Doctors Association of Zambia president Dr. Alinani Silwamba has challenged men in the country to ensure they become major contributors in the fight against the pandemic by getting tested.

He says there is need for everyone in the country to contribute to ending the pandemic by 2030.
