The Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) has demanded that the creation of new districts in the country be halted forthwith.
ZCSD Executive Director Lewis Mwape says the creation of new districts is putting more pressure on an already strained treasury.
He says any additional creation of these unplanned districts will put pressure on the meager resources in the treasury that should be channeled to needy sectors.
Mr. Mwape says while the President has the constitutional right to declare new districts, there is need to consider the realities on the ground and the other competing needs of the country.
Mr. Mwape states that the districts that have already been created are yearning for development as they lack the necessary infrastructure.
He adds that the President should not deliberately pay a blind eye to the realities in terms of the country’s fiscal outlook.
