Indian contractor ready construct flyover bridges in Lusaka

FLY-OVER-BRIDGEThe construction of fly over bridges by an Indian contractor aimed at decongesting Lusaka is expected to commence in September this year.

Shapoorji Pallonji Africa Business Center Deputy General Manager Ranjit Gajare has disclosed that his company is ready to commence the works, and are only waiting for 15 percent counterpart funding from the Zambian Government towards the project.

Mr. Gajare has explained that while waiting for the funds, his company has been on the ground in Zambia to conduct feasibility studies, geotechnical studies, as well as social and environmental impact assessment.

He says the three year project will see the construction of ring roads from Makeni to Mumbwa road and further connect to the Great North Road after Heroes stadium which will also involve expanding selected roads from two to four lanes while some existing four lanes will be further expanded to six lanes and buses will have dedicated lanes.

Mr. Gajare adds that the Great East Road from Arcades to Lusaka central business district will have two lanes on the fly over bridge while the existing four lanes will be expanded to six lanes.

The Deputy General Manager said this when he called on Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga at the Zambian Chancery in New Delhi.

And Mrs. Kapijimpanga says Zambia appreciates the Indian Government for extending another goodwill gesture through EXIM Bank of India for the execution of the project.

Mrs Kapijimpanga has assured the contractor that she will convey the message to the Ministry of Finance through the Ministry of Foreign affairs regarding the project as Zambia looks forward to the timely commencement of the project.
