Maize price unfair to farmers- SAFADA

SAFADA Executive Director Boyd MoobweThe Small Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) says the K60 maize price announced by the Food Reserve Agency is unfair to the farmers who invested more in the production of the commodity.

SAFADA Executive Director Boyd Moobwe says the price will only frustrate farmers who may even abandon maize production, like they have done with other cash crops that have in the recent past proven to be unprofitable.

Mr. Moobwe says government could have at least set the price of a 50 kilogram bag of maize at K75.

He has since appealed to the government to revisit the price announced by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) and come up with a price which will benefit farmers.
