Improvement in electricity supply to spur production- ZAM

rosseta chabalaThe Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) says the manufacturing sector is likely to see an in production this year owing to the constant power supply in the country so far.

ZAM President Rosetta Chabala says the sector had reduced production by up to 40 percent when loadshedding was at its pick last year.

Ms. Chabala says manufacturing companies are now recovering due to the constant energy supply.

Meanwhile Ms. Chabala has told Q-News that the stability in the exchange rate will help enhance planning in the purchasing of raw materials, and pricing of manufactured products on the international market.

She states that the sector has in the recent past faced loses due to the fluctuations of the local currency.

Ms Chabala adds that fluctuations of the local currency affects the manufacturing sector because it has to keep changing prices on the international markets instead of constant or uniform pricing of commodities which are locally manufactured.

She says there is need for government to enhance measures that will ensure the continued stability of the Kwacha if the country’s manufacturing sector is to be competitive on the international market.
