Govt informs ICC on the outcomes of the consultations

Lubinda GGovernment has informed the International Criminal Court (ICC) that Zambia will maintain its membership with the court.

Justice Minister Given Lubinda says government made its position known to the ICC when the permanent secretary in the ministry of justice recently attended a meeting held in Dakar, Senegal.

Mr. Lubinda says Zambia is also presenting its views on the reform of the International Criminal Court so that no one raises the same challenges African countries raised in the future.

He says Zambia has set a standard by holding consultations on its membership to the ICC as seen from other African countries that have followed suit by conducting similar consultations.

Mr. Lubinda says government will ensure that Zambia contributes positively to the further development of the International Criminal Court.

And Mr. Lubinda says he has written to the ICC Secretariat indicating Zambia’s readiness to host the conference of State parties of ICC in Southern, Central and East Africa.
