The High Court has set 14th August, 2017 as the date for the commencement of the treason trial for incarcerated UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his co-accused.
Mr Hichilema’s lawyer and UPND Chairperson for legal affairs Jack Mwiimbu has confirmed the development to Q-news in a telephone interview.
Mr Mwiimbu has since welcomed the setting of the date for the commencement of trial in the matter which he says is long overdue.
He says Mr Hichilema’s legal team is ready for the case.
Mr Mwiimbu has also expressed hope that the case will not drag for too long as the case has been for most of the cases of Mr. Hichilema is facing.
The UPND leader and his co-accused have been incarceration since April 12, 2017.
