Govt urged to consider reintroducing Windfall tax

The Movement for National Transformation (MNT) has recommended that the government considers reintroducing windfall tax for the mining sector in the 2018 national budget.

MNT President Daniel Shimunza says this is considering the impact that windfall tax will have in terms of resource mobilization for the country.

Mr. Shimunza says Zambia’s economic strength is copper mining which if well taxed can contribute massively to the transformation of the country.

He states that mines make huge profits and therefore cannot fail to pay windfall tax.

Mr. Shimunza says it is very clear that multinational companies are not remitting their returns despite making huge profits from the mines they operate.
