RPA makes headways in formulation of nuclear energy law

The Radiation Protection Authority (RPA) says it has made headways in coming up with relevant laws aimed at protecting the environment and the public in the country’s quest to advance in nuclear energy.

RPA Executive Director Boster Siwila has told QTV news that every technology comes with safety precautions and that the public should welcome government’s efforts in advancing towards nuclear technology.

Mr. Siwila says the public should therefore not worry of such initiatives because they are beneficial to Zambia as a developing country.

He says the authority will ensure it enhances regulation of nuclear technology to safeguard public safety and the environment.

Mr. Siwila has since disclosed that government has sent most of the authority’s manpower for advanced training to countries with stable nuclear technology.

He notes that nuclear technology will largely contribute to the country’s economy in terms of the energy and the health sectors.
