MPs debating declaration of a state of threatened public emergency

Members of Parliament are currently debating the motion moved by Vice President Inonge Wina for the house to approve the President’s declaration of a state of threatened public emergency made on Wednesday,5th July,2017 under Statutory Instrument No.53 of 2017.

Moving the motion, Ms Wina said it is necessary that the house approves the declaration of threatened state of public emergency in order to allow reasonably ample time for the implementation of appropriate measures to deal with the existing situation.

She said it is not practicable to institute measures aimed at fostering a state of public emergency within a period of seven days from the date of the presidential proclamation.

Contributing to the debate, Wusakile Independent Member of Pavyuma Kalobo said Zambians want to be assured that the media and the civil society will operate freely.

And Mwembeshi Member of Parliament Machila Jamba says Zambians should be guaranteed of their movement without being stopped anyhow.

And PF Mwansabombwe Member of Parliament Rodgers Mwewa says security wings should be cautioned not to abuse power being given to them.
