The Zambia Police Command has directed motorists to stop using beacons or sirens on their vehicles.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says the police command has noted with great concern the misuse of beacons or sirens by members of the public hence inconveniencing motorists and other road users.

Ms Katongo says according to provisions of the Road Traffic Act as well as the Zambian High Way Code, only emergency motor vehicles such as Police motor vehicles, Ambulances, Fire Tenders, construction vehicles, Abnormal loads, vehicles carrying dangerous goods, the military police and Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) are allowed to be fitted with beacons.

Ms Katongo adds that the colour to be used by the categories mentioned above is also regulated by law and that such beacons should not be used on personal motor vehicles.

She has warned that any member of the public disregarding these provisions will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile ms katongo says the Zambia Police Service is saddened by the increase in number of unscrupulous people masquerading as Ministers on social media to obtain money through dubious means from unsuspecting Zambians.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has told Q-News that they have since engaged ZICTA to help bring to book perpetrators of such activities.

Ms. Katongo says much as Police are doing their best in maintaining law and order in all sections of society, the onus is on members of the public to be weary of such dubious activities.

She says members of the public should exercise extreme caution on who they send their personal details or money related information on social media to avoid being caught in the web of fraudsters.
