RTSA cautions cyclists

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has warned cyclists that the Road Traffic Act also applies to them.

RTSA Head of Public Relations Fredrick Mubanga says cyclists must observe all traffic rules which include cycling on the left hand side, being sober when cycling, putting on reflective gear whenever they are on the road and ensuring that check if the road is clear whenever they try to change lanes or cross the road.

Mr. Mubanga has cautioned that failure to adhere to the rules and regulations, cyclists risk being charged for failure to follow traffic rules.

He is furthermore appealing to all road users to exercise caution on the road and follow all traffic rules and drive at acceptable and mandated speeds.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mubanga has disclosed that six people sustained injuries when a Mitsubishi Rosa bus in trying to avoid a cyclist lost control and hit a tree in Chingola.

He says the accident happened around 16:50 hrs along Kabundi road yesterday.

He adds that of the injured, two have been discharged and four are still admitted at Nchanga General Hospital.

Mr. Mubanga says the accident happened after the driver of a Mitsubishi Rosa bus registration number AGB 3267 was trying to avoid a cyclist and later hit into a tree.
