Zimbabwe court jails two Zambians for theft

Two Zambian nationals of Siavonga district have been sentenced to 8 months imprisonment after being convicted by a Zimbabwean court for theft of copper cables.

Siavonga district Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama who has confirmed the development to Q-News has named the two as Beston Mupota and Charles Shayamanhu

Mr Kanyama has since appealed to Zimbabwean authorities to consider transferring the two convicts to Zambia so that they can serve their sentences back home.

He has also appealed to the Zimbabwean Authority to start considering fining fishermen arrested for failing to observe the water boundary on Lake Kariba as opposed to imprisonment.

Mr. Kanyama notes that fishing is the main source of income for many people in Siavonga, stating that some of the fishermen arrested and serving prison terms in Zimbabwe were pushed to Zimbabwean side by the strong wave on the lake.
