Media urged to report more on women issues

Panos institute Southern Africa Executive Director; Lillian Kiefer says there is need for the media to report more on women issues in an effort to promote women leadership.

Speaking during the opening of a “women empowered for leadership” media workshop in Lusaka today, Ms Kiefer noted that if empowered and integrated into leadership roles, women can significantly help in eradicating poverty in society.

Ms Kiefer expressed concern that women have not been empowered enough to be developmental partners which has undermined social and economic progress.

She further bemoaned the marginalization of women from political, social as well as economic activities.

She has emphasized the need to remove barriers that hinder women from fully participating in activities that can be stepping stones to attaining leadership roles.

Ms Kiefar feels gender equality in leadership can only be attained if women are given a platform to participate in developmental activities.
