Samsung Zambia has today launched its fourth solar powered internet school worth over three million kwacha at Kabweza primary school in Kafue district.

The solar powered internet schools which are being implemented by Samsung Zambia, Airtel Zambia, Korea education and research information services and the ministry of education, utilize solar paneled roofs which enable students to have access to computers and the internet in areas where electricity is unreliable or even nonexistent.

Speaking during the official launch in Kafue today, in a speech read on his behalf by Chief Curriculum Specialist James Chilufya, General Education Minister Dennis Wanchinga said electrification of schools in rural areas is key to effective implementation of the curriculum on information and communications technologies in the country.

Dr. Wachinga has urged other stakeholders to compliment Samsung’s efforts by help in powering rural schools so that pupils can access new technologies.

And speaking at the same event, Samsung Zambia Representative Kafuta Mulemba noted the importance of education in Zambia’s development.

He says solar schools internet project will help pupils get acquainted with Information Communication Technologies (ICTs).

And Kabweza primary school head teacher Eugene Mulenga commended Samsung for the gesture.

He said the school has for a long time been facing challenges conducting ICT lessons, but that pupils will now get the practical express of ICT lessons.

The solar powered internet school is a 40 feet mobile shipping container which contains desks, a 65 inch electronic board, internet enabled solar powered notebooks, computers and a wifi camera that enables pupils in rural areas to receive a technology–rich education.
