Lungu commits to address housing deficit in security wings

President Edgar Lungu has assured security wings of his commitment to addressing the accommodation challenges they are facing.

The Commander-IN-Chief of the Armed Forces made the assurance when he launched the construction of 2, 000 housing units for Zambia National Service (ZNS) officers at ZNS Chamba Valley which will be constructed in all the service cantonments across the country at a total cost of K1.5 billion over a three year period.

President Lungu says the PF Government remains committed to ensuring that descent accommodation for security officers in the country is provided to make their lives comfortable.

He says the launch of the construction of the housing units for ZNS signifies government’s resolute commitment to end housing challenges that men and women in uniform have been facing over the years.

Speaking at the same launch, Defence Minister Davies Chama said the Zambia National Service has been entrusted with a lot of responsibilities by government and that it’s imperative that when the officers go out to execute their duties, their families are left in descent and comfortable environments so that they do not worry about them when they are out on tour of duty.

And ZNS Commandant Lieutenant General Nathan Mulenga says construction of the housing units will help his command to easily administer the welfare of the men and women in uniform as they will be in one localized area.

General Mulenga says the same will also help to keep them away from the many negative vices that they face in the various communities within which they live today.
