Zamtel exceeds 1.5 million subscribers

Zamtel has announced that it has exceeded 1.5 million customers and is now chasing the 2 millionth customer-milestone before the end of 2017.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Sydney Mupeta has since thanked Zamtel customers, both old and new, for being a part of this success story by using the network on a daily basis for their communication needs.

Mr Mupeta says the recent launch of the Zamtel All Networks Tariff Promotion and the great effort and dedication from Zamtel employees has led to the unprecedented growth in both the number of customers and traffic volume.

He says the 1.5 million mark is a launch pad for Zamtel to the envisioned position of being the leading telecommunications provider of choice while being cognisant of the competitive nature of the telecommunication industry.Zamtel

Mr Mupeta notes that the industry requires constant innovation, creativity and capital investment to meet the ever evolving customer needs, and that to support the required level of innovation and creativity, Zamtel will soon be rolling out infrastructure to support data hungry innovative products and services to make them more accessible in both rural and urban areas.

He adds that Zamtel has in the last three years rolled out an additional 543 3G-sites and have started rolling out 4G sites to enable the Zamtel network handle ultra-high speed data services.

He says this is in addition to many 2G and 3G sites that will be dotted across the country.

Mr Mupeta further states that Zamtel is working with its partners Huawei and ZTE to expand the 3G network so that it can accommodate more traffi­c to improve quality of user experience.

He says so far, expansion works have been completed from Kitwe to Chililabombwe, while equipment for the rest of the country is being manufactured.
