Police in Lusaka this morning stopped the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) from holding their media briefing at Chainama Hotel in Lusaka because they did not have a permit for such a public gathering.

Police in full riot gear blocked the entrance to the hotel premises stopping anyone from going in.

This left the opposition party with no option but to hold the news conference at the party secretariat in Rhodespark.

And briefing journalists, UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema says the party leadership is considering other strategies of stopping what he has termed as ‘dictatorial tendencies’ of the PF Government.

Mr. Hichilema claims this is the reason why President Lungu wants Zambia to pull out of the International Criminal Court (ICC) so that he can commit atrocities at will.

He says Zambia will not pull out of the ICC.

He says he’s currently working on a plan to stop the ongoing ICC consultations, claiming PF members have been hired to submit that Zambia is no longer interested to be a member of the ICC.

And UPND Vice President Geoffrey Mwamba says it should worry Zambians that the PF is rushing to withdraw the country’s membership from the ICC.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hichilema has maintained that Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini is a PF cadre and is failing to adjudicate on matters of national interest in the House.

He has since stated that he will not present himself before the Speaker in the event that he’s summoned because the speaker is a known PF sympathizer.

Mr Hichilema also directed all UPND Members of Parliament to shoot down the motion that seeks to review the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) Bill at Committee Stage.

And speaking at the same briefing, Peoples Party President Mike Mulongoti called for the resignation of Chief Justice Ireen Mambilima whom he has accused of being compromised.

And MMD Faction Leader Dr. Nevers Mumba has advised President Lungu to choose a path of life, peace and reconciliation.
