Wedson Nyirenda is satisfied with Zambia’s overall display in Sunday’s away friendly draw against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Zambia and Zimbabwe played out to a 0-0 at The National Sports Stadium in Harare, in what was Chipolopolo’s first engagement in 2017.

Nyirenda fielded a team that comprised of home-based player’s with goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene of Mamelodi Sundowns, in South Africa the only foreign-based call-up on the trip.

The Zambia coach took a home-based team for the friendly, as be begins to mould a side for the 2018 African Nations Championship (Chan) first round qualifier against in July against Swaziland.

“My team played good football they created a myriad of chances but, I think the responsibility to finish was not there,” Nyirenda said.

Nyirenda admitted that the off-season rust, due to the four-month break, that ends on April 1 when the 2017 campaign kicks off, was a factor.

“If we were in tip-top form in terms of scoring, we would have come out with at least three goals,” Nyirenda said.

Zambia striker’s Fwayo Tembo and Ronald Kampamba, had great chances in the first half but denied by Edmore Sibanda the 10th and 39th minutes respectively.

Striker Jackson Mwanza too had a go at Sibanda but, the Zimbabwe goalkeeper denied him twice in the second half.

“But all in all, it was still good build-up for the Chan, Afcon and World Cup qualifiers,” Nyirenda said.
